El Tejido is a finca or farm in Northwest Colombia. El Tejido translates to “The Weave” and that is the best way to describe what is happening in the lush valley that holds the community. They are a small collective of people weaving their lives together in an effort to achieve common goals that center around personal and spiritual growth. They incorporate a variety of work, personal practices, ceremony and plant medicines into almost all aspects of what they do. Daily life looks like maintaining several businesses based on permaculture principles, chasing after young children and diving deeply into interests and talents that serve them. They open their community to visitors who are passionate about immersing themselves in such ways as well. The hope is be a place of education and inspiration. During my visit, I began to truly understand the medicine of their efforts and the potential of connection. This feeling of connection was not only to others, the land and a forgotten way of living but to a deeper sense of myself as well.
