In partnership with multiple organizations, Missoula County Public School sponsored a rare day of education and opportunity for their students. The morning started with a ceremony and conversations about how sacred life is. The message was directed towards suicide awareness but wove together so many other resiliency factors. As the Blackfeet elders spoke, their words hung in the air with potency. The student body seemed unusually present as they offered what they could to the younger generation. The day was about tradition and teaching endangered lessons. Gratitude and respect for the life of the Bison was at the forefront. Even though there was laughter and plenty of smiles, everyone felt the gravity of the day. The harvest was done well, and the animal’s spirit was honored in more ways than one. Undoubtedly, it knew what was happening, and it seemed to offer its life with grace and understanding.
